JOHOR BARU: The Regent of Johor, Tunku Mahkota Ismail, arrived at Istana Bukit Serene at 11.03am on Saturday to attend the swearing-in ceremony of the newly appointed Johor State Executive Council (Exco) members, marking the formation of the state’s new administration following the recent state election.
The official vehicle carrying the regent entered the palace grounds shortly before the ceremony, where newly appointed Exco members were scheduled to take their oath of office.
Preparations for the ceremony began early in the morning, with vehicles transporting the new Exco members arriving through the Jalan Kolam Air entrance from 9.00am.
At approximately 10.19am, Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi, Johor Council of Royal Court president Datuk Dr Abdul Rahim Ramli, and State Secretary Datuk Mohammed Ridha Abd Kadir also arrived at the palace via the main entrance.
Media personnel gathered outside Istana Bukit Serene as early as 8.00am to cover the historic event, which officially marks the beginning of the new Johor state executive administration.
The swearing-in ceremony follows the appointment of Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi as Johor Menteri Besar for a second consecutive term. He took his oath of office last Sunday after Barisan Nasional (BN) secured a commanding victory in the 16th Johor State Election.
The election, held on July 11, saw Barisan Nasional win 48 of the 56 seats in the Johor State Legislative Assembly, giving the coalition a strong mandate to form the new state government.
The appointment of the new Exco lineup is expected to complete the formation of Johor’s executive leadership and pave the way for the implementation of the state’s development agenda over the next term.
