The nation’s independence achieved through the strength and unity of the people, says Anwar
KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has called on all citizens to acknowledge that the nation’s independence was achieved through the strength and unity of its people.
According to the Wilayahku portal, he stated that while there may be differing opinions on minor issues, it is crucial that every citizen receives protection, is shown affection, and is given adequate defense.
“I want to use this independence, National Day 2024, as a moment for us to support each other. Believe that this country is great because its people are great.
“This nation has even greater potential if we work together to elevate its status as a great country in the world,” he said.
He made these remarks during the Prime Minister’s National Day Address at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC).
Meanwhile, Anwar emphasized the need for a new culture to begin by ending practices of rampant corruption and misconduct, as well as betrayal of the nation.
He said that the country’s leadership must be more responsible, not allowing the plundering of national wealth and the abuse of power for personal gain.
“What is the meaning of independence if every year thousands of children line up to wave the sacred flag (Jalur Gemilang) and shout ‘Merdeka,’ but the soul is haunted because we allow and the system permits ongoing misconduct?
“We learn from history; ignorance of history, blindness of heart, insensitivity, and lack of humanity will lead this nation to be plagued by incitement, envy, betrayal, and ongoing corruption and misconduct.
“When the situation deteriorates to a severe and damaged state, it will not be easy to repair,” he said.
