SINGAPORE: Singapore will no longer issue or renew Vehicle Entry Permits (VEPs) for foreign-registered vehicles with unpaid traffic, parking or emissions-related fines starting November 2 under stricter enforcement measures announced by the authorities.
In a joint statement, the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Land Transport Authority (LTA) said the new regulation is aimed at strengthening compliance among foreign motorists entering the republic.
Previously, foreign-registered vehicles with outstanding fines were only denied entry at Singapore’s land checkpoints. Under the revised policy, motorists must now clear all pending fines before they can apply for or renew their VEPs.
The authorities advised foreign drivers to check for any unpaid penalties through the AXS online platform before submitting their VEP applications via the LTA OneMotoring website. Prompt payment of fines, they said, would help ensure a smoother approval process.
According to the statement, motorists planning to enter Singapore are encouraged to submit their VEP applications at least two weeks in advance.
“Payment service providers may need up to two business days to process fine payments and update the agencies’ systems,” the statement noted.
The authorities also reminded Singaporean drivers with outstanding traffic fines in Malaysia to settle their payments before travelling across the border.
The latest move reflects Singapore’s continued efforts to strengthen cross-border traffic enforcement and ensure compliance with road regulations among all motorists entering the country.
