KAJANG: A school canteen in Sungai Ramal here has been ordered to close following viral claims that several students experienced vomiting, dizziness and stomach aches, although the actual cause is still under investigation.
A post uploaded by the account holder @aaira_fififufu claimed that the canteen of Sekolah Seri dan Semi ABIM Sungai Ramal was ordered to close for 14 days following the incident.
According to the post, most of the students experienced symptoms such as vomiting, dizziness and stomach aches.
A Threads user, believed to be the mother of one of the students, using the account @pagi.baker, said the incident occurred on Monday and is still under investigation.
She said her daughter was among the students who showed symptoms after vomiting three times while at school.
“With Allah’s permission, by night-time her condition had recovered. As of yesterday (Tuesday), the situation appears to be under control,” she said.
According to the account holder, her child informed her that the beef sambal dish served was spicy, while several other comments claimed the dish had an unpleasant smell, but the actual cause has yet to be determined.
Meanwhile, another account holder, @neysahz, came forward to defend the school’s actions, stating that parents had been continuously informed through the school’s official communication group.
According to her, the school had issued various notifications since the day of the incident, while health authorities had also arrived to conduct inspections and investigations.
At the same time, a premises closure notice was also shared in the post.
The notice stated that the kitchen of the Sekolah Seri dan Semi ABIM canteen was ordered to be closed for 14 days starting Tuesday until 14 July.
The order was issued under Section 18(1)(d) of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988 on the grounds that the premises were in a condition that could cause the onset or spread of infectious diseases to the public.
To date, the school and the Selangor State Health Department have not issued any official statement regarding the actual cause of the incident, while investigations are still ongoing.
