Selangor Wholesale Market Fire: Forensic Report To Be Completed Within 14 Days
SERDANG: The Selangor Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) expects the full report regarding the cause of the fire that destroyed several premises at the Selangor Wholesale Market here to be completed within 14 days after the forensic investigation begins.
Selangor JBPM Operations Division Assistant Director, Ashrul Riezal Asbar, said the forensic investigation process will begin as soon as the cleaning and debris removal operations are fully completed.
According to him, the report will encompass the findings from the investigation to identify the actual cause of the fire before being handed over to the premise owners.
“After the investigation is completed, we need about 14 days to prepare the report before it is submitted to the owners,” he said when met at the incident site today.
He said initial inspections at the fire site also found that the destroyed premises were not equipped with fire extinguishers, which should have been available for initial response when the fire broke out.
When asked whether fire safety audits would be extended to nearby premises, Ashrul said that has not been planned for now.
He explained that open‑style buildings like those in the wholesale market area are subject to different fire safety requirements compared to enclosed buildings.
“Basically, premises like these only need to provide facilities such as hose reels and fire extinguishers.
“From my observation, the main building of the Selangor Wholesale Market has those facilities, but I have not conducted a thorough inspection of all nearby premises,” he said.
