Younger Brother of Sultan of Terengganu Passes Away

KUALA TERENGGANU: The younger brother of the Sultan of Terengganu, Tengku Baderul Zaman ibni Almarhum Sultan Mahmud Al-Muktafi Billah Shah, passed away at Gleneagles Hospital in Kuala Lumpur at 1.20 am today.

Terengganu Royal Comptroller Datuk Mohd Sophian Abu Bakar said in a statement that the late royal’s remains were scheduled to arrive at Sultan Mahmud Airport in Kuala Nerus, near here, at 1.15 pm today on a special flight before being taken to Balai Islam for members of the public to pay their last respects.

He said the remains would then be taken to the Royal Mausoleum at Al-Muktafi Billah Shah Mosque in Ladang here, following Asar prayers and the funeral prayer at 4.13 pm.

The royal burial ceremony will take place upon the arrival of the remains at the royal mausoleum, after which the proceedings will conclude.

Following the passing, the Regent of Terengganu has also consented to declare a three-day mourning period beginning today.

Tahlil prayers will be held for three consecutive nights at Balai Islam, Istana Syarqiyyah, Kuala Terengganu.

The first night’s tahlil ceremony is scheduled to begin at 7.45 pm today.
