Malaysia Is Against Zionist Tyranny, Not Anti-Jewish – PM Anwar
PORT DICKSON: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has asserted that Malaysia firmly defends its stance against Zionist Israeli tyranny and is not anti-Jewish.
The Prime Minister said the recent action by eight United States (US) Congress members who raised sentiments as if Malaysia is anti-Jewish was off the mark from the actual reality.
“We have made a decision, we will not budge because it is not a matter of us insulting Jews, but we oppose the cruelty, tyranny and occupation of Israel.
“That is what we must clarify. They raised it as if we are anti-race (Jewish). We are not anti-race, we are anti-oppressor nation,” he said.
He said this to reporters after attending the National Spirit Programme at the Basic Army Training Centre (PUSASDA) here today.
The day before yesterday, eight US Congress members were reported to have sent a letter to US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, expressing dissatisfaction with Anwar’s firm action to immediately expel Israeli nationals in Malaysia.
The Congress members urged the US government to take stern action because Anwar’s statements were alleged to have anti-Semitic tendencies.
Following that, Anwar stressed that Malaysia remains firm with its stance of restricting the entry of Israeli nationals, and the fact that Malaysia is an independent and sovereign state is not new, but rather a position established over decades.
Yesterday, Foreign Minister, Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, informed that Malaysia had officially asserted to the US government regarding the country’s policy of never recognising the state of Israel.
He said Malaysia’s Ambassador to Washington, Tan Sri Muhammad Shahrul Ikram Yaakob, had been summoned by the US State Department to explain the matter, and informed that the policy is not new.
