SHAH ALAM: “No time” and “forgot” were the most common excuses given by road users caught without driving licenses during a major enforcement operation conducted by the Selangor Road Transport Department (JPJ) along the Shah Alam Expressway (Kesas) on Tuesday night.

According to JPJ Selangor Director Azrin Borhan, the five-hour operation began at 8:30 PM at the Kemuning Toll Plaza heading toward Shah Alam, covering both general and motorcycle lanes. A total of 580 vehicles were inspected, with 252 summons notices issued for various traffic offenses. Driving without a valid license: 76 cases; Expired Motor Vehicle License (LKM): 51 cases; No valid insurance: 49 cases; No Goods Driving License (GDL): 8 cases. Failure to display vehicle registration number: 7 cases; no rear reflector: 5 cases; other technical offenses. 10 vehicles involved

Azrin noted that the longest period of road tax expiry detected during the operation was two years, with the majority of such cases involving motorcyclists.

JPJ also seized 12 vehicles, including eight motorcycles and four cars, due to serious violations.

During the operation, tour buses were also inspected. All passengers were found to be wearing seat belts, following prior instructions from the drivers.

“This shows a commendable level of awareness and compliance with safety protocols,” Azrin said.

The integrated operation was carried out in collaboration with the Royal Malaysia Police (JSPT), the National Anti-Drugs Agency (AADK), and the highway concessionaire.

During the same operation, AADK Petaling detained three local men, aged between 30 and 40, who tested positive for methamphetamine.

Azrin confirmed the operation proceeded smoothly without any incidents, such as motorcyclists riding against traffic to evade checks, a problem often encountered in past roadblocks.

The JPJ reiterated that such operations serve not only to enforce traffic laws but also to educate the public.

“These initiatives are crucial to instilling a culture of road safety and legal compliance among motorists. Excuses such as ‘too busy’ or ‘forgot’ cannot justify breaking the law,” Azrin concluded.
