Free Ambulance Service Expands to All Nine Selangor Districts
SHAH ALAM: The Ambulans Kita Selangor (AKS) programme has entered its second phase, with the free health mobility initiative expanded to nine districts, 56 state constituencies and 86 government health clinics across the state.
Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari launched the second phase of the programme on July 15, 2026 to ensure more residents have access to treatment at government health facilities without facing transportation constraints.
Public health executive councillor Jamaliah Jamaluddin said the service provides one-way or return transport for eligible patients to 86 health clinics and at least 20 government hospitals.
“The travel time does not exceed four hours and includes journeys from home to government hospitals, from hospitals to homes, as well as transfers between government hospitals,” she said.
She added that priority is given to bedridden patients and those who require oxygen support throughout the journey, provided their household income does not exceed RM5,000 a month.
“Applicants must also reside in Selangor, and applications must be submitted at least one day before the service date at the nearest state assemblyman’s community service centre.
“Applicants are also required to bring copies of their identity card, hospital appointment confirmation letter and proof of household income,” she said.
Jamaliah said that once applications are approved, the state assemblyman’s community service centre will submit the forms to the ambulance team before patients are contacted via WhatsApp to confirm the transport schedule.
Implemented in collaboration with St John Ambulance Malaysia (SJAM), the programme targets chronic patients, senior citizens and bedridden patients who require transportation to hospitals for follow-up treatment or medical transfers.
48 ambulances operating from six locations
Jamaliah said that since November 2025, a total of 48 ambulances have been operating year-round, including one neonatal ambulance and two bariatric ambulances stationed at six strategic locations in Selangor.
“To date, the programme has handled 372 cases involving 103 beneficiaries since the first phase was implemented,” she said.
She added that the initiative’s coverage has expanded from three to nine districts, while its service areas have increased from five to 12 local authorities and from 26 to 56 state constituencies.
The Selangor government allocated RM1 million under the Bantuan Selangor Bangkit (BSB) initiative for the implementation of the programme’s first phase, followed by an additional RM1 million under the Selangor Budget 2025 to expand coverage and improve the efficiency of the free ambulance service.
