KOTA BHARU: A General Operations Force (PGA) officer suffered a broken right arm after the four-wheel-drive vehicle he was driving collided with a car driven by a suspected drug trafficker along Jalan Pekan Lama Rantau Panjang in Pasir Mas yesterday.

PGA Southeast Brigade Commander Datuk Ahmad Radzi Hussain said the 35-year-old suspect was believed to have attempted to evade an inspection by the PGA Battalion 9 Strike Force team.

He said the collision left the 41-year-old corporal, who was driving the team’s vehicle, with a broken arm, while three other officers escaped unhurt.

“The suspect was arrested after the Toyota Camry he was driving became immobilised. An inspection uncovered six bottles containing a dark-coloured liquid suspected to be codeine,” he said when contacted yesterday.

Ahmad Radzi said that before the incident, the operations team had received intelligence about drug trafficking activities involving courier services used to deliver drugs to several states in Peninsular Malaysia and Sarawak.

He said that at 1.30 pm, the team inspected a courier premises in Rantau Panjang and discovered six plastic packages believed to contain drugs, comprising approximately 70 grammes of cannabis flowers, 10 units of cannabis oil and three kilogrammes of compressed cannabis.

Following the discovery, the operations team conducted patrols before encountering a Toyota Camry driven by the suspect, who was believed to be linked to the packages.

He said the man then sped away for approximately two kilometres in an attempt to evade arrest before his car collided with the PGA four-wheel-drive vehicle as officers attempted to stop him.

Ahmad Radzi said the suspect was believed to have links to a drug trafficking syndicate operating around Rantau Panjang and Pasir Mas.

The case has been handed over to the Pasir Mas District Police Headquarters for further investigation, while the total value of the seized drugs is estimated at RM10,000.
