MUAR: Two elderly women, a baby and a young girl were killed in a three-vehicle accident at Kilometre 107 of the southbound North-South Expressway (PLUS) near Pagoh here yesterday afternoon.

Pagoh Fire and Rescue Station Operations Commander PBK I Mohd Hafiz Mohd Shah said seven firefighters, together with a Fire Rescue Tender (FRT), were dispatched to the scene after receiving an emergency call at 5.19 pm.

He said that upon arrival, firefighters found three vehicles involved in the accident — a Ford Ranger four-wheel-drive vehicle, a Toyota Vios and a Scania trailer lorry.

“Initial findings showed that the Ford Ranger had crashed into the rear of a lorry parked by the roadside before being struck by a Toyota Vios.

“Four occupants of the Ford Ranger, comprising two elderly women, a five-year-old girl and a nine-month-old baby, were pronounced dead at the scene, while a man in his 40s and another victim sustained injuries,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Mohd Hafiz said two occupants of the Toyota Vios, a man in his 70s and a 35-year-old woman, were also injured, while another man believed to be the trailer lorry driver escaped unharmed.

He said the injured victims were given initial treatment before being taken to hospital, while the bodies of those who died were handed over to the police for further action.

The rescue operation ended at 6.11 pm.
