School Preparations to Receive 6-Year-Old Pupils on Right Track, Majority of Projects Completed Early

PUTRAJAYA: The majority of infrastructure preparation projects to welcome six-year-old Year One pupils for the 2027 school session have been completed ahead of schedule.

Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek said this development proves the Ministry of Education’s (KPM) readiness in ensuring school facilities are at their best before pupils begin the next school session.

“Congratulations because in our preparations, particularly infrastructure preparations to receive six-year-old children in Year One next year, some projects have already been completed ‘ahead of time’. Meaning much earlier.

“Thank you to the Chief Secretary (KSU) and the team who worked tirelessly to ensure our preparations to receive these children, especially the infrastructure, are going very well,” she said.

She said this in a speech at the KPM Monthly Assembly here today.

Fadhlina said she and the KPM Chief Secretary will visit several schools whose infrastructure projects have been completed early to review firsthand the level of readiness before the school session begins.

Meanwhile, she said other preparations including teacher placements are made based on early announcements regarding the implementation of six-year-old pupil admissions to Year One.

She said parents’ response to the initiative remains encouraging, with KPM still receiving inquiries and registrations for the admission of six-year-old pupils.

“As of yesterday, we are still receiving inquiries and registrations for these six-year-old children. Throughout this year, there are still parents who want to register their children.

“So far, this admission and registration remains popular and we thank parents for placing their trust in KPM,” she said.

She said KPM is confident that the process of admitting six-year-old Year One pupils will become more orderly in the coming years, given the increasingly thorough and organised preparations.

In a separate development, Fadhlina said KPM will implement a school reform programme starting next week.

She said through the programme, 10 schools in each district will be selected as pilot projects to elevate the quality of education and student development.

Each district will select five primary schools and five secondary schools to be developed as the best schools in their respective districts.

She explained that each selected school will have the opportunity to receive an allocation of up to RM100,000 to implement various reform initiatives according to their respective needs and plans.

“Each district will elevate 10 schools, namely five primary schools and five secondary schools, which should become the best schools in their respective districts.

“I have gone through several sessions with these schools and it appears that each is quite enthusiastic because our offer is up to RM100,000 for each school to make various changes and reforms,” she said.
