Saudi Arabia and Malaysia Deepen Cultural Cooperation, Explore Museum and Heritage Exchange

KUALA LUMPUR/RIYADH: Cultural ties between Saudi Arabia and Malaysia are set to strengthen further after senior officials from both countries held talks on expanding collaboration in arts, heritage, and cultural development.

Prince Badr bin Abdullah bin Farhan, Saudi Arabia’s minister of culture, met Malaysia’s minister of tourism, arts, and culture, Tiong King Sing, in Kuala Lumpur on Wednesday to discuss ways to enhance bilateral cultural cooperation.

During the meeting, Prince Badr highlighted the long-standing historical and fraternal relations between the two nations, stressing that culture serves as an important bridge in strengthening people-to-people ties.

He also expressed appreciation to Malaysia for inviting Saudi Arabia as the guest of honor at the Kuala Lumpur International Book Fair, describing it as a significant opportunity to promote cultural understanding and exchange.

Both sides reviewed ongoing cultural relations and explored new opportunities for cooperation across museums, literature, heritage preservation, and creative industries, aligned with the development visions of both countries.

In a related development, Saudi Assistant Minister of Culture Rakan Al-Touq visited the Islamic Arts Museum in Kuala Lumpur, where he met representatives of the Albukhary Foundation, the institution that founded and funds the museum.

Discussions focused on enhancing museum-level cooperation, including expert exchanges, joint exhibitions, and programs for lending and sharing artifacts between institutions in Saudi Arabia and the Islamic Arts Museum.

Officials from both countries said such initiatives would help strengthen cultural diplomacy and promote greater understanding between the two nations’ rich artistic and historical traditions.
