BALIK PULAU – A former clerk of a law firm was brought before the Sessions Court here on Wednesday on six charges of criminal breach of trust involving company money totalling RM33,827.

The accused, Mazuin Marzuki, 45, however pleaded not guilty after all charges were read out separately before Judge Ahzal Fariz Ahmad Khairuddin.

According to the charges, the woman, who was working as a clerk at the law firm at the time of the incident, was accused of misappropriating her employer’s money by depositing a portion of the funds into her personal bank account as well as her husband’s account.

The offences were allegedly committed through several separate transactions involving a total sum of RM33,827 between the years 2020 and 2025 at a law firm along Jalan Kolam Ikan, Bayan Lepas.

The prosecution was conducted under Section 408 of the Penal Code which provides for a minimum imprisonment of one year and a maximum of 14 years, in addition to being liable to a fine and whipping if found guilty.

The case was handled by Deputy Public Prosecutor Lim Jin Hong, while the accused appeared without legal representation.

During proceedings, the prosecution applied for the court to set bail at RM40,000 for all charges faced by the accused.

However, Mazuin appealed for the amount to be reduced on the grounds that she is currently unemployed and only depends on her husband’s income, who serves in the government sector, as well as needing to support three children.

“I do not have a job at the moment and only depend on my husband. I also have three children to support.

“Therefore, I plead for the bail amount to be reduced,” she said.

After considering the applications from both parties, the court allowed the accused to be released on bail of RM30,000 for all charges.

The court also set 29 July as the next mention date for the case and for the appointment of counsel.
