JOHOR BARU, Sept 13 (VoM) Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has reaffirmed that the government will reduce the price of RON95 petrol to RM1.99 per liter for Malaysians by the end of September, under the targeted subsidy scheme.

Anwar addressed public doubts over the timeline of the fuel price adjustment, stressing that the promise will be kept.

“Some asked, ‘It’s already September, where is the reduction?’ Just wait a while, we will fulfil our promise,” he said.

He explained that while locals will enjoy the RM1.99 rate, foreign nationals will pay between RM2.50 and RM2.60 per liter.

In July, Anwar announced several initiatives as part of the government’s commitment to easing the people’s burden, including a one-off RM100 Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (Sara) aid, the postponement of toll hikes for 10 highways, and the upcoming petrol price reduction.

The Prime Minister also reiterated his firm stance against corruption, vowing that the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) will act against anyone involved, regardless of status.

“Whether it’s a Tun, Tan Sri, an ordinary person or a civil servant – I have directed MACC to continue their blitz. I have even received warnings, but that will not stop us,” he said, noting that some individuals linked to corruption include gangster leaders and wealthy figures.

Defending his international engagements, Anwar stressed that his trips abroad were official working visits at the invitation of foreign leaders. He will be attending an emergency summit in Doha on Sept 14, following Israel’s recent attack on Qatar, at the invitation of the Emir of Qatar.

On humanitarian efforts, Anwar stood by Malaysia’s assistance to countries in crisis, including flood aid to Pakistan and field hospitals in Myanmar after devastating earthquakes.

“No country will become poor by helping others in dire need,” he said.
