KUALA LUMPUR: The RM6.5 million upgrading works at Taman Lembah Kiara, carried out by the National Landscape Department (JLN) and the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (JPS), have been completed, with the majority of the allocation used for restoring drainage systems, retention ponds, and electrical facilities at the recreational park.
Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories) Hannah Yeoh said the park, located within the Bukit Kiara Federal Park area, falls under the supervision of relevant authorities overseeing public recreational spaces.
She clarified that only about RM700,000 of the total project cost was allocated for landscaping works, including repairs to pedestrian walkways and the refurbishment of two gazebos, while the remainder was spent on infrastructure and drainage rehabilitation works.
“Therefore, the perception that the entire RM6.5 million was spent on landscaping is not accurate. Only RM700,000 was for landscaping, including walkway repairs and upgrades to two gazebos,” she said during an inspection visit to the park on Monday.
Hannah said RM2.5 million was allocated for electrical system upgrades, including feeder pillars, underground cabling, and replacement of 233 damaged lamp posts.
She added that RM3.3 million was used for the restoration of ponds and drainage systems, including rehabilitation of upstream ponds, sedimentation basins, riverlet repairs, and the main pond within the park.
The upgrade project also involved the construction of two eco-walls, desilting works, and the installation of maintenance facilities to improve operational efficiency and reduce future maintenance costs.
Hannah said Taman Lembah Kiara has now been reopened to the public, operating daily from 5.30am to 8pm following the completion of the upgrade works.
She noted that the project remains under a one-year defect liability period until April next year, during which JLN and JPS Malaysia will continue to monitor the condition of the upgraded facilities.
Hannah also expressed appreciation to the National Landscape Department, the Department of Irrigation and Drainage, and representatives of Kampung Sungai residents for their cooperation throughout the project.
