ALOR SETAR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in Kedah has arrested a police officer suspected of soliciting and accepting approximately RM15,000 in bribes from a drug dealer two years ago.

According to a source, the man, who is in his 30s, is believed to have received the bribes in exchange for protecting drug trafficking activities and preventing law enforcement action in the state.

The source said the police officer was arrested at approximately 2 pm on Monday when he appeared to give a statement at the Kedah MACC office.

“Preliminary investigations found that he is suspected of committing the offences throughout 2024 and is believed to have received bribes ranging from RM200 to RM2,500 each month through money transfers into his personal bank account,” the statement said.

Kedah MACC Director Datuk Nazli Rasyid Sulong, when contacted, confirmed the arrest and said the case is being investigated under Section 16(a)(B) of the MACC Act 2009.
