Para Sukma: Morning Events to Be Shifted to Afternoon or Evening if Haze Occurs
SHAH ALAM: The competition schedule for the Selangor 2026 Para Malaysia Games (Para Sukma) will be shifted to the afternoon or evening sessions if haze prevents events from taking place according to the original timetable.
State Exco for Youth, Sports and Entrepreneurship, Mohd. Najwan Halimi, said the organisers do not plan to extend the duration of the Games in the event of postponements; instead, they will rearrange the schedule to ensure all events can still be contested.
He said events that cannot be held in the morning will be moved to the afternoon or evening sessions, including being extended until late at night if necessary.
“Regarding the impact of haze, there may be changes to the event schedule timing, but so far no events have been cancelled.
“If there are events cancelled in the morning, we will try to hold those events in the afternoon or evening,” he said after visiting the Para Sukma Selangor badminton venue at the National Sports Complex here today.
According to him, his team is also obtaining daily feedback from the Department of Environment (DOE) to monitor the Air Pollutant Index (API) readings.
“We have also asked athletes to wear face masks if they are at the venue and not to remain at the venue for too long.
“Safety and health remain the top priority. We do not want the health of athletes and officials to be affected by the haze,” he said.
Kosmo! yesterday reported that all Selangor Para Sukma events would be cancelled if the Air Pollutant Index (API) reading reaches 200, due to health risks that could affect athletes and officials.
That decision is among the preventive measures agreed upon in a meeting with the Para Sukma Special Technical Committee, which was also attended by the Director General of the National Sports Council (MSN), Jefri Ngadirin.
