MACC Detains Housing Committee Chairman Suspected of Involvement in RM1.6 Million Corruption

JOHOR BAHRU: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has detained the chairman of a housing committee of a federal statutory body in this state on suspicion of being involved in soliciting and accepting bribes.

According to the Johor MACC, the suspect was found to have abused his position by deceiving applicants for government land in housing lot applications.

“The male suspect, aged in his 40s, is believed to have been arrested at about 7.30 pm yesterday when he came to the Johor MACC office to give his statement.

“Preliminary investigations found that the suspect is suspected of committing all these acts between 2016 and 2025,” the MACC said in a statement today.

The MACC stated that the suspect is believed to have abused his power by requesting approximately RM4,000 from each of the 400 applicants for housing lots.

According to the MACC, this involves a total amount of approximately RM1.6 million, before misappropriating the money for personal use through withdrawals from the committee’s bank account using fake invoices.

Meanwhile, Johor MACC Director, Datuk Hairuzam Mohmad Amin @ Hamim, said the case is being investigated under Section 16(a)(A), Section 18 and Section 23 of the MACC Act 2009.

He said the suspect will be released on MACC bail after his statement has been recorded.
