Over 30,000 runners will join the 2025 Jakarta International Marathon

JAKARTA|| June 29: More than 30,000 runners from 51 countries took part in the 2025 Jakarta International Marathon on Sunday, making it one of the largest annual sporting events in Indonesia’s capital.

According to Antara News Agency, the race began early in the morning with approximately 31,000 participants, including both domestic and international runners, setting off from the iconic National Monument (Monas) in central Jakarta.

Governor Pramono Anung confirmed the scale of the event, highlighting its global appeal. “Participants in the Jakarta International Marathon came from 51 countries,” he said.

First held in 2013, the Jakarta International Marathon has grown steadily each year, attracting elite athletes and amateur runners alike from around the world.

To ensure a smooth and safe race, authorities temporarily closed 32 roads across the city. Security personnel, medical teams, and volunteers were stationed along the route to support runners and manage the large crowds.

The event promotes healthy living and sports tourism and strengthens Jakarta’s position as a major destination for international athletic competitions.

Race categories included the full marathon, half marathon, 10K, and 5K, with various prizes awarded to top finishers across age and gender categories.
