One-Year Sentence, Fine for Organizer of Fake Hajj Campaign

Riyadh, June 4 — An Asian resident has been sentenced to one year in prison and fined SAR 10,000 for organizing a fraudulent Hajj campaign through a social media platform, the Public Prosecution announced.

According to authorities, the individual was found promoting a fake Hajj campaign with the intent to unlawfully obtain money from unsuspecting individuals. Authorities apprehended him in possession of multiple receipts and materials linked to the scheme.

Following a thorough investigation, the Criminal Court issued a preliminary ruling that included not only imprisonment and a monetary penalty but also the confiscation of all devices and tools used in committing the crime.

The public prosecution reiterated that organizing fake Hajj campaigns constitutes a major criminal offense, punishable under the kingdom’s laws. It emphasized its ongoing commitment to protecting pilgrims and upholding the integrity of Hajj by taking legal action against anyone who violates pilgrimage regulations.

Officials have urged the public to only register for Hajj through authorized platforms and accredited operators to avoid falling victim to fraud.

This case underscores the Saudi government’s firm stance against exploitation during the holy pilgrimage season and its efforts to maintain the safety, trust, and sanctity of Hajj operations.
