JEDDAH: The Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) convened its 21st Extraordinary Session in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, to address the continuing Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people and the escalating humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza.

The meeting, held at the request of Palestine, Türkiye, and Iran, came as the death toll from Israel’s ongoing offensive surpassed 62,500 Palestinians killed, including 18,500 children and 12,400 women, with more than 1.5 million displaced and famine officially declared by the United Nations.

In its Final Resolution, the OIC:

  • Strongly condemned Israel’s plan to impose full military occupation and control over Gaza, describing it as an illegal escalation and a violation of international law

  • Declared Israel’s actions, including mass killings, starvation, illegal blockade, and settlement expansion, as war crimes, crimes against humanity, and genocide, warranting accountability before the International Court of Justice (ICJ) and the International Criminal Court (ICC).

  • Held Israel fully responsible for the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza and demanded the immediate lifting of the blockade to allow unimpeded entry of food, medicine, fuel, and humanitarian aid.

  • Called for an immediate and comprehensive ceasefire, support for mediation efforts by Egypt, Qatar, and the U.S., and the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza.

  • Rejected any displacement of Palestinians, inside or outside Gaza, warning states against complicity in Israeli plans.

  • Condemned Israel’s recent approval of 3,400 illegal settlement units near occupied Jerusalem and its systematic targeting of journalists, with 238 media workers killed since the war began.

  • Reaffirmed support for the two-state solution based on pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as the capital of Palestine, in line with the Arab Peace Initiative.

The resolution also urged all states to take effective measures against Israel, including sanctions, halting arms transfers, reviewing diplomatic ties, and supporting Palestine’s full recognition and membership at the United Nations.

The OIC further welcomed recent moves by several countries to recognize Palestine, describing recognition as essential to protecting Palestinian rights and advancing peace.

The session highlighted the centrality of the Palestinian cause to the Islamic world and emphasized that a just and lasting peace requires the end of Israeli occupation and accountability for crimes committed against the Palestinian people.
