Yesterday, a guy in his 40s was taken into custody in relation to a bribery scam involving heavy vehicle inspections at Kuala Lumpur’s Computerized Vehicle Inspection Centre (Puspakom).

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and the Road Transport Department (JPJ) worked together to make the arrest. JPJ turned over the suspect to MACC in the afternoon, and MACC took him to the MACC Headquarters in Putrajaya for interrogation.

According to preliminary investigations, the suspect had been taking bribes totaling hundreds of ringgit for each vehicle inspection in order to authorize Puspakom’s heavy vehicle inspections. In accordance with MACC Act 2009 Section 16(a)(A), the case is being investigated.

The Putrajaya Magistrate’s Court placed the individual under detention this morning to conduct further investigation.

This arrest highlights the continued efforts by MACC and JPJ to protect the integrity of the vehicle inspection procedure and fight corruption in the law enforcement industry, the statement said.
