Man arrested after knifing incident with ex-girlfriend at hypermarket

BUTTERWORTH: A man has been taken into custody for attacking his ex-girlfriend with a knife at a hypermarket on Sunday.

The incident, which occurred at a hypermarket in Bagan Ajam around 8:45 p.m., was witnessed by numerous shoppers and captured on video, which has since gone viral.

Seberang Prai Utara district police chief Assistant Commissioner Anuar Abd Rahman reported that the police were notified by a woman who claimed to be harassed by her former partner. 

He stated that the suspect used a knife to injure the victim’s right pinkie during the confrontation. 

“Members of the public intervened and restrained the suspect until the police arrived,” Anuar said. 

The suspect has been detained under Section 117 of the Penal Code for further investigation. The case is being investigated under Sections 324 and 506 of the Penal Code.

“Once we receive instructions from the prosecutor, we will proceed with charging the suspect,” he added.

The video, lasting 1 minute and 18 seconds, shows a man threatening a woman with a knife while several bystanders try to intervene. Blood stains were also visible on the floor. The man was later arrested.
