The Malaysian government has advised its citizens residing in or traveling to West Asia to strictly comply with security directives issued by host countries, as the regional security situation remains unstable.
In a statement issued on March 16, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said authorities in several countries, including Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates, and Kuwait, have introduced strict regulations prohibiting the photographing or recording of security incidents, interception sites, or security personnel. Violations may result in penalties under local laws.
The ministry added that host governments have also warned residents against spreading unverified information or rumors related to security developments. Citizens are advised to rely only on official government sources for accurate updates.
Malaysians in the region are further urged to fully comply with any local movement restrictions or emergency directives issued by the respective authorities.
The ministry noted that the regional security environment remains uncertain, with continued military activities reported in parts of West Asia over the past 48 hours.
Separately, the ministry said it is closely monitoring developments involving Malaysian-flagged vessels and seafarers operating in the Arabian Gulf, following disruptions to maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz.
It stated that several Malaysian-operated ships are currently positioned in the broader Gulf region due to ongoing commercial shipping disruptions through the strait.
According to the latest update, all contacted Malaysian crew members have been confirmed safe and in good health.
Malaysia’s diplomatic missions in the region are maintaining continuous communication with relevant port authorities and shipping operators to monitor the welfare and safety of affected seafarers.
