Melaka PRN: Saifuddin Nasution Will Meet Ab Rauf to Discuss Cooperation

PUTRAJAYA: Pakatan Harapan (PH) Secretary-General Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail did not rule out the possibility of meeting Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh to discuss cooperation in the State Election (PRN).

The PKR Vice-President, who is now carrying out the duties of the party’s Deputy President, said the discussion is likely to take place after Ab Rauf returns home from a working visit to New Zealand.

“If I go to Melaka, I must stop by his house and have asam pedas Mak Leha with him. So we are always in touch.

“In that communication, we discuss various matters. Since Melaka is approaching elections, it is possible that we will open that topic,” he said after the Memorandum of Understanding exchange ceremony between the Malaysian Immigration Department (JIM) and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) here today.

On August 8, Barisan Nasional (BN) Chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the coalition is still open to negotiation space regarding seat distribution for the Melaka PRN, including seat exchanges, as long as it is done honestly and sincerely.

He said the basic principle of the negotiation stipulates that seats won by any party must be respected and not simply handed over to political allies.

Following that announcement, PH Communications Director Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil said the openness should be embraced for the sake of Melaka’s future and political stability, as well as its importance to the country.
