KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia is set to adopt a more innovative and dynamic approach to national development as global geopolitical and economic challenges intensify, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced today.
Chairing the 50th Meeting of the National Physical Planning Council (MPFN), Anwar emphasized that the country can no longer rely on traditional development models that depend heavily on government funding. Instead, Malaysia must transition toward strategies that are more adaptive, resilient, and driven by broader economic participation.
During the meeting, the Prime Minister also addressed recent developments in the ongoing conflict in West Asia, highlighting the wider implications of global instability on Malaysia’s economic and strategic planning.
“The increasingly complex global landscape demands a shift in how we plan and execute national development,” he said. “We must embrace innovation and reduce overdependence on government allocations to ensure sustainable growth.”
The council reviewed key aspects of Malaysia’s physical planning framework, with a strong focus on achieving balanced and sustainable development. Discussions included efforts to strengthen local economies, optimize land use, and ensure that development projects deliver high-impact outcomes.
Anwar reaffirmed the MADANI government’s commitment to improving the quality of life for Malaysians through comprehensive and people-centric initiatives. These include the provision of quality affordable housing, more efficient mobility systems, and the creation of livable, sustainable urban environments.
He stressed that physical development must always be anchored in the well-being of the people, supported by structured planning and effective implementation.
“With careful planning and strong execution, we are confident that Malaysia will continue to move forward toward a more sustainable, inclusive, and resilient future,” he added.
The MPFN serves as a key platform for coordinating national physical planning policies, ensuring that development across states aligns with long-term national goals.
