Malaysia Introduces 10-Year Passport at RM350 Under New Fee Structure

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian government has introduced a 10-year passport option priced at RM350 for adults, following a new amended fee structure that came into effect on June 3.

The new policy, outlined in the Fees (Passports and Visas) (Amendment) Order 2026 and published in the Federal Government Gazette, marks a significant shift from the country’s previous five-year passport validity system.

Under the new structure, the 10-year passport fee for applicants aged 18 to 59 is set at RM350. Senior citizens aged 60 and above will pay RM175, while persons with disabilities (OKU card holders aged 18 and above) will be issued the passport free of charge.

The gazette also states that Immigration Department officers and staff are eligible for a free 10-year passport.

However, as of Thursday (June 4), the Immigration Department has yet to announce when applications for the 10-year passport will officially open or whether the service is already available to the public.

Published under P.U. (A) 208/2026, the amendment introduces updated provisions for passport replacement fees in cases of loss or damage.

For applicants aged 18 to 59, replacement costs are RM550 for the first replacement, RM850 for the second, and RM1,350 for the third and subsequent replacements. Senior citizens will pay RM375, RM675 and RM1,175, respectively, for the same categories.

OKU card holders and Immigration Department personnel are required to pay RM200 for the first replacement, RM500 for the second, and RM1,000 for the third and subsequent replacements.

The amendment also revises eligibility definitions for student passports, now specifying students “studying for a degree programme abroad” instead of the previous broader category of those studying overseas.

According to the gazette, the 10-year passport applies to Malaysians aged 18 and above, while existing five-year passport provisions remain for children under 12, students under 21 pursuing degree programmes abroad, Haj pilgrims, and persons under 18 with disabilities.

The amendment was made on February 16 under the Fees Act 1951 and officially came into force on June 3.
