Don’t Treat Bullying as a Joke

PASIR PUTEH: School students are reminded to stop the culture of excessive joking, as actions considered merely as pranks can turn into bullying when they result in injury or trauma to the victim.

Kelantan State Education Department (JPN) Director, Siti Norina Muhamad, said that student safety now involves not only physical threats but also encompasses mental and emotional well-being, which is increasingly challenging.

She said that although bullying cases in Kelantan remain under control, the department does not take lightly any form of joking that crosses the line and could harm fellow students.

“Students may think that such acts are just jokes, but when they cause injury or affect the victim, it can already be classified as bullying.

“We want this culture to be stopped before it becomes more serious,” she told reporters after officiating the 2026 Student Safety Campaign at Sungai Petai National Secondary School (SMK) here today.

Siti Norina informed that the 2026 School Safety Campaign, now in its fourth year, has proven to have a positive impact in raising safety awareness among students.

She said the Kelantan JPN consistently implements various initiatives to strengthen the safety culture in schools, including emphasising cybersecurity issues.
