KUALA LUMPUR: The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Living Costs (KPDN) aims to penetrate the international market with Malaysian-made products by strengthening cooperation with several major supermarket chains abroad.

According to Astro Awani, the minister, Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali, stated that for the purpose of internationalizing Malaysian goods, four countries will be the focus this year: the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Thailand, Japan, and China.

He explained that the ministry will also identify more supermarkets to be involved in these four countries to boost the sales value of local products.

“We hope that with this program, which also collaborates with supermarkets in these countries, we can bring more of our local products to be marketed on the shelves of supermarkets abroad.

“Alhamdulillah, Lotus’s Stores Sdn Bhd is also one of the supermarkets that assist KPDN in driving the internationalization program for local products,” he said at a press conference after the Launch of the Buy Malaysian Goods Campaign (KBBM) 2024 at Lotus’s Setia Alam.

Armizan further stated that besides Lotus’s, other supermarkets involved in the internationalization program for local products include Lulu and AEON Co (M) Bhd.

He added that a comprehensive report detailing the list of products and companies involved in the internationalization of local products will be announced by the end of this year.

“We will identify more supermarkets in the relevant countries to participate in driving internationalization efforts,” he added.

Meanwhile, Armizan mentioned that besides promoting the KBBM campaign, KPDN is also providing programs such as business development training, business matching programs, and Malaysian goods logo branding.

These programs, he said, focus on providing guidance for skill enhancement and growth, particularly for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).

Additionally, he stated that KPDN encourages local entrepreneurs to utilize online platforms to promote, market, and ultimately boost the sales value of their products.
