King Abdullah of Jordan talks about Gaza at a meeting in Cairo with the presidents of Egypt and France
During a meeting in Cairo with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and French President Emmanuel Macron, King Abdullah II of Jordan stressed how important it was to stop Israel’s attack in Gaza.
On Monday, the leaders asked the rest of the world to support ending Israel’s war in Gaza, bringing back the ceasefire agreement, and making sure that Gaza’s Palestinian enclave on the coast gets relief aid.
The Petra news agency reported that King Abdullah said that Israel’s attacks on Gaza hurt all diplomatic and humanitarian attempts to solve the problem and could cause chaos in the whole Middle East.
He emphasized the need for a two-state political settlement to protect and stabilize both Palestinians and Israelis.
According to the Petra report, King Abdullah of Jordan expressed his disagreement with the relocation of Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank. He also warned Israel against acting on its own and attacking Muslim and Christian holy places in Jerusalem.
The leader of Jordan and El-Sisi were glad that France was working to solve the Palestinian problem. They emphasized the need for the whole world to work together, especially EU countries like France, to help rebuild Gaza.
Macron will land in Cairo on Sunday and go to Al-Arish, 50 km from Gaza, on Tuesday. There, he will meet with security and humanitarian officials and try to get the fighting to stop. On Monday, he clarified it that he was strongly against any kind of displacement or annexation in Gaza and the West Bank, which is controlled by Israel.
According to Petra, King Abdullah, El-Sisi, and Macron all discussed the need for a political settlement to make East Jerusalem the capital of an independent Palestinian state to achieve lasting peace.
There were three people from Jordan in the delegation: Ayman Safadi, who was Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriate Affairs; Alaa Batayneh, who was Director of the King’s Office; and Amjad Al-Adaileh, who was Ambassador to Cairo.
