KUALA LUMPUR: The Ministry of Home Affairs (KDN) has seized 22,414 copies and materials of the Quran without approval nationwide in the first six months of this year, amounting to over RM3.2 million.

According to Berita Harian, the Minister of Home Affairs, Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, stated that the seizures were carried out by the Enforcement and Control Division through operations starting from January.

He mentioned that these involved Quran manuscripts and materials brought in from abroad without approval from the Quran Printing Control and Licensing Board of KDN.

“Any entry of Quran manuscripts from any country for distribution within this country is subject to the Quran Text Printing Act 1986 (Act 326).

“So, it is our responsibility to ensure the authenticity, which is very important so that the sanctity of this text can be preserved,” he said.

He made these remarks when met by reporters after the meeting with the Quran Printing Control and Licensing Board (LPPPQ) of KDN.

Saifuddin stated that KDN would not wait for issues of errors in Quran manuscripts and materials to become serious but would instead take proactive measures to address the problem.

He said that the establishment of LPPPQ is one of KDN’s efforts to facilitate control over the printing, importation, sale, publication, and distribution of the Quran and Quranic materials in the country to prevent any deviations, in order to protect the sanctity and purity of the Quran.

“We do not wait for it to become serious; we take it as our responsibility from a governmental system perspective. We must have a system that has been established.

“We inform them that even if they produce digital versions of the Quran, the control and licensing division has the capacity to manage it.

“So, I am confident that with this method, it can reduce any potential issues if defects occur in the production of digital Quran versions,” he said.
