JPJ-MACC Cooperation Busts Vehicle Document Forgery Syndicate

SHAH ALAM: Cooperation and intelligence-sharing between the Road Transport Department (JPJ) and the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) were key factors in the successful operation that dismantled a syndicate involved in forging documents for vehicle ownership transfers.

MACC Chief Commissioner Datuk Seri Abd Halim Aman said such inter-agency cooperation was crucial to the success of enforcement operations and should serve as an example for other agencies.

“I would like to express my appreciation and gratitude to the JPJ for its excellent cooperation and commitment in carrying out the operation.

“Such cooperation and the sharing of intelligence and operational information are among the key factors contributing to the success of an operation,” he said when contacted on Thursday.

Earlier, the MACC, in collaboration with the JPJ, successfully dismantled a syndicate involved in forging vehicle ownership documents. The syndicate was also suspected of bribing officers from an enforcement agency in Perak to facilitate changes in vehicle ownership status.

The syndicate was uncovered following six months of intelligence-sharing between the MACC and JPJ.

Following the investigation, the Perak MACC arrested 11 individuals on Tuesday, comprising six civil servants and five members of the public, after they appeared at the Perak MACC office to give their statements.

The suspects, comprising seven men and four women in their 20s to 40s, were remanded for six days until September 14.

Sinar Harian was informed that preliminary investigations found that the six civil servants had allegedly colluded with five members of the public, who acted as intermediaries, in carrying out the activities around 2025.

All the suspects are believed to have submitted documents containing false particulars in connection with vehicle ownership transfers involving 16 classic registration numbers.

The case is being investigated under Section 18 of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009.
