Heavy rain is expected to hit 5 states

KUALA LUMPUR: Heavy rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds are expected to affect five states, namely Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang, Sabah, and Sarawak, until 9 PM tonight.

According to Berita Harian, the Malaysian Meteorological Department (METMalaysia) reported that in Kelantan, the affected areas include Tumpat, Pasir Mas, Kota Bharu, Bachok, Pasir Puteh, and Kuala Krai, while in Terengganu, the areas include Besut, Setiu, Hulu Terengganu, Dungun, and Kemaman.

“In Pahang, the affected areas are Maran, Kuantan, and Pekan, while in Sarawak, the rain is expected to impact Sarikei (Meradong), Sibu (Sibu and Selangau), and Mukah (Daro, Matu, Dalat, and Mukah).”

“In Sabah, the affected areas include the interior (Sipitang, Tenom, and Nabawan), the west coast (Ranau and Kota Belud), Sandakan (Tongod), and Kudat (Kota Marudu),” said METMalaysia in a Facebook post.

METMalaysia also stated that a warning is issued when there are signs of thunderstorms with rain intensity exceeding 20 millimeters per hour that are likely to occur or are expected to last for more than an hour.

“A thunderstorm warning is a short-term alert that is valid for a period not exceeding six hours for a specific report,” it added.
