Government Studying Methods to Improve Promotion Process for Senior ATM Officers

TAMPIN: The government is studying methods to improve the promotion process for senior officers of the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM), said Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

He said this matter needs attention considering that promotions among senior ATM officers sometimes take longer compared to other civil servants.

Anwar said previously, civil servants, including security forces, enjoyed the new salary scales under the Public Service Remuneration System (SSPA).

“Among senior officers, sometimes their promotion is slow when compared to other civil servants. So I told the KSN (Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar), can we review it?

“It is not that many, but we look at the financial provisions. In the near future, we will decide so that our armed forces feel that they are not sidelined and will not be marginalised, and Insya-Allah we will implement it,” said the Prime Minister.

He said this in a speech at the National Spirit Programme, which was also attended by Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar, Deputy Defence Minister Adly Zahari, Chief of Defence Forces Tan Sri Malek Razak Sulaiman and Chief of Army General Tan Sri Azhan Md Othman at Kem Syed Sirajuddin, Gemas, here, today.

Anwar said the matter has been discussed and will be finalised in a meeting that he will chair in the near future.
