The alleged murder of a foreign woman at a hotel in Taman Mawar, Puchong, on December 31 has led to the arrest of a third suspect.

According to Bernama, Serdang police commander AA Anbalagan captured the suspect, a 23-year-old construction worker from Bangladesh, in Putrajaya yesterday around 4:30 p.m.

“An initial inquiry indicated that the suspect knew the victim and admitted to carrying out the murder out of jealousy,” he said in a statement today.

The police have remanded the suspect until January 10.

According to him, Section 302 of the Penal Code, which stipulates that a conviction carries a minimum sentence of 30 years in jail and a maximum of 12 strokes of the rotan, has characterised the case as murder.

Two foreigners were taken into custody by police on Wednesday morning after a staffer at the low-cost hotel filed a report after the Indonesian woman’s body was found at 10:15 p.m. the previous day.

Anbalagan reports that the inquiry placed the two 39-year-old males under detention until January 6.

According to him, Serdang Hospital will do a postmortem to determine the cause of death.
