Fadillah delivers the keynote address at Climate Action Week in London
PUTRAJAYA: Deputy Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof will attend the London Climate Action Week 2024 and deliver the keynote speech at the High-Level Dialogue on Coal Phase-Out session at the invitation of the United Kingdom (UK) government, next week.
According to Bernama, the Ministry of Energy Transition and Water Transformation (PETRA) in a statement today, informed that it is part of Fadillah’s official working visit to the UK starting tomorrow until June 27.
According to PETRA, the participation of Fadillah, who is also the Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation, to the high-level dialogue session is important enough to highlight the perspective of Malaysia and also developing countries in the energy transition effort.
“Malaysia’s position that the energy transition should be carried out fairly and equitably, including in the aspect of coal phasing-out, is important to be highlighted at international forums such as the London Climate Action Week.
“This is because the needs of economic development in developing countries also need to be taken into account in the aspirations of climate change and the global energy transition led by developed countries,” according to PETRA.
Fadillah is also expected to conduct a technical visit to the Vantage RE PLC wind power plant project, which is also a wholly owned subsidiary of Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) to review and learn aspects of industrial development and regulatory control in the UK from the perspective of the developer and project owner.
He will also meet with the International Hydroelectric Association (IHA), an international organization to support stakeholders in hydroelectric development, aiming to explore joint ventures with IHA to take advantage of the potential of hydroelectric development in Malaysia as a source of baseload electricity supply, especially in Sarawak.
In addition, he will also conduct a technical visit to the raw water and sewage treatment facilities owned by Wessex Water, a water and sewerage service company in Bath, West London, owned by YTL Power International Berhad.
“This technical visit will, among other things, review the raw water treatment system including the management of sewage waste water treatment carried out by Wessex Water.
“While in the UK, the Deputy Prime Minister is also scheduled to meet with the Malaysian diaspora in London to share about the country’s latest development efforts and initiatives, especially in the energy transition aspect,” according to PETRA
