Don’t hold political stability hostage, says PKR Srikandi chief

KUALA LUMPUR: Political stability should not be used as a bargaining chip, says PKR Srikandi chief Nurhidayah Che Rose, questioning Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s suggestion that Barisan Nasional (BN) could be dropped from the unity government or Parliament dissolved immediately.

Nurhidayah said the statement raised questions about the Umno president’s consistency, pointing out that Zahid had only days earlier reaffirmed BN’s commitment to maintaining political stability until the end of the current parliamentary term.

“If political stability is truly the priority, it should not be used as a bargaining chip,” she said in a statement.

She said Malaysians were not interested in which party wanted to leave the government, who might withdraw support or who was counting numbers to topple the administration.

“What the people want is for the government to focus on issues that affect their daily lives — the cost of living, jobs, their children’s education, healthcare, housing and the economy,” she said.

Nurhidayah urged political leaders to resolve their differences maturely instead of putting the country’s stability at risk for partisan interests.

“If there are political differences, resolve them maturely. Do not make the country’s stability a stake in partisan manoeuvring,” she said.

She said ordinary Malaysians did not wake up every morning worrying about which party might leave the government or when Parliament would be dissolved.

“They wake up thinking about the price of goods, their family’s income and their children’s future.

“Focus on that,” she said.
