Phnom Penh, Aug 24: Cambodia is inviting Malaysian investors to explore opportunities in the country’s halal food processing sector, aiming to tap into the fast-growing global halal market and strengthen economic ties between the two nations.

Speaking at a recent business forum, Cambodian officials highlighted the country’s potential to become a regional hub for halal-certified products, thanks to its abundant agricultural resources and strategic location in Southeast Asia. They emphasized that Malaysia’s expertise in halal certification, production standards, and global marketing could play a key role in developing Cambodia’s halal industry.

“We see Malaysia as a natural partner in building a strong halal ecosystem in Cambodia. With your experience, investment, and technology, we can ensure products from Cambodia meet international halal standards and reach wider markets,” said a senior Cambodian trade representative.

Malaysia, recognized as a global leader in the halal industry, has long been a reference point for halal certification and compliance. Cambodian authorities believe collaboration with Malaysian businesses will not only boost food exports but also create jobs and attract further investment in related sectors such as logistics, packaging, and cold-chain facilities.

Industry analysts note that global demand for halal food is projected to continue rising, particularly in Muslim-majority markets across Asia, the Middle East, and Africa. By partnering with Malaysia, Cambodia hopes to gain a competitive edge and establish a reputation for reliable halal food exports.

Both sides agreed to hold follow-up discussions and explore joint ventures in halal food processing, signaling a new chapter of economic cooperation between Cambodia and Malaysia.
