Broken Embankment: 32 Houses in Bukit Changgang Hit by Floods, Immediate Aid Coordinated
SHAH ALAM: A total of 32 houses in Taman Langat Utama 2, Bukit Changgang, Banting were affected by floods following an embankment breach incident early this morning.
Following the incident, the Sepang Member of Parliament Service Centre together with relevant agencies immediately went down to the ground to attend to residents, assess the current situation and coordinate the necessary assistance.
Sepang Member of Parliament Datuk Aiman Athirah Sabu said the incident is believed to have been caused by a broken embankment approximately 800 metres from the residential area, which caused water to enter the residents’ homes.
“About 32 houses were affected with water depth estimated between one to three feet,” she said in a statement on Facebook.
She said the current priority is to ensure the safety of every affected family, in addition to assisting with the evacuation process if necessary.
“We will also identify the cause of the incident and take follow-up action with the relevant parties for immediate and long-term solutions,” she said.
She also urged affected residents to comply with safety instructions from the authorities and seek assistance if needed.
“Thank you to the District Disaster Committee, technical agencies and the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department team, especially the Banting Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) which acted swiftly since early morning. We will continue to monitor this situation until it is brought under control,” she said.
Meanwhile, Selangor Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Operations Assistant Director Ashrul Riezal Asbar informed that the incident occurred around 11 p.m. with most residents having already left the area.
Ashrul Riezal said however, his department received an emergency call at 4.12 a.m. before six officers and personnel from BBP Banting arrived at the location at 4.35 a.m. to carry out monitoring and relief operations.
“So far, a total of 32 houses have been affected by the floods that hit the area. The fire department also advised residents still in the affected area to immediately move to a safer location as a precautionary measure,” he said.
