PH Penang Maintains Stance to Accept BN, UMNO
GEORGE TOWN: Pakatan Harapan (PH) Penang maintains its stance to accept cooperation with Barisan Nasional (BN) and UMNO in the administration of the Penang State Government.
Penang PH Chairman, Chow Kon Yeow said, the decision was also not questioned during the engagement session held on Wednesday.
“That decision was not questioned yesterday either, no one questioned it at all.
“It doesn’t matter, he (Lim Guan Eng) can raise that issue,” he said when met after officiating the R.A.C.E to Zero: Penang Edition programme in Bayan Lepas on Thursday.
Previously, Guan Eng, who is DAP Advisor, questioned the stance of the top leadership of Penang PH that continues to support UMNO’s role in the state government administration despite there being statements that he described as unfriendly attacks against DAP and PKR.
Guan Eng said, the stance is difficult to understand when no feedback is given regarding the statement by Bertam State Assemblyman, Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican, who is alleged to have made baseless accusations against DAP and PKR regarding the issue of identity politics.
According to the former Penang Chief Minister again, Reezal previously denied that BN exploited identity politics in the Negeri Sembilan State Election (PRN), instead claiming that DAP and PKR only focused on one race.
Meanwhile, when asked whether only Guan Eng raised the matter, Kon Yeow said, he does not know whether there are one or two individuals questioning the decision.
“We do maintain that decision,” he said.
Previously, Penang PH decided to continue cooperation with BN and UMNO in the administration of the Penang State Government.
The decision was announced by Kon Yeow after chairing the state PH meeting on Saturday afternoon.
According to him, the consensus also includes retaining the BN EXCO, Datuk Rashidi Zinol, who holds the Rural Development, Agrotechnology, Food Security and Entrepreneurship portfolio in the Penang State Government administration in line with the cooperation understanding or ‘electoral pact’ forged during the 2023 state election (PRN).
