SUKMA 2026: Two Early Golds Give Positive Signal to Selangor

KLANG: The success in winning two gold medals before the opening ceremony of the 2026 Malaysia Games (SUKMA) gives a positive signal to the Selangor Contingent in their effort to achieve the target of 80 golds in this edition.

Selangor Contingent Chief, Abbas Salimmi Che Adzmi said the achievement through the men’s and women’s 3×3 basketball events proves that thorough preparation and the hard work of the state’s athletes are beginning to bear fruit.

According to him, this momentum needs to be maintained by all Selangor athletes until the last day of the Games.

“I congratulate our basketball teams on this success, thus proving that their commitment and hard work previously have borne fruit.

“This is a good start for the Selangor Contingent and it gives a positive signal to everyone. Our athletes are also seen to be spirited and I am confident we can achieve the target of 80 gold medals,” he told Media Selangor.

He, who is also the State Assemblyman (ADN) for Seri Serdang, said the solid support from supporters and the involvement of volunteers are also among Selangor’s strengths as the host of SUKMA 2026.

He said, the presence of supporters who form cheerleading teams at competition venues not only enlivens the Games but also helps boost the athletes’ morale when competing.

“This is also our advantage as the host. I see many supporters coming and this is a sign that we are capable of making this SUKMA a success,” he said.

In the 3×3 basketball final at the Bukit Tinggi Basketball Court, Selangor defended their championship after the men’s team defeated the Federal Territory 21-13.

The Selangor women’s team also recorded a stylish victory by defeating the Federal Territory 21-4 to gift the second gold medal to the state contingent.

The success allows Selangor to open their SUKMA 2026 campaign with two gold medals, thus boosting the state contingent’s confidence in their mission to achieve the target of 80 gold medals.
