Saudi Arabia Voices Support for Syrian Government’s Stability Efforts, Condemns Israeli Strikes

RIYADH, July 16— Saudi Arabia has expressed satisfaction with recent steps taken by the Syrian government to restore stability and security across the war-torn country, following recent deadly clashes in the southern province of Sweida.

According to a statement reported by the Saudi Press Agency, the Kingdom welcomed Syria’s efforts to maintain civil peace and reinforce its sovereignty over all its territory, especially after the Syrian army was deployed to de-escalate internal fighting between Druze fighters and Bedouin tribes that left over 100 people dead.

The statement comes in the wake of Israeli airstrikes targeting Syrian government positions in the Druze-majority region. Israel claimed the strikes were conducted to protect the Druze minority, while Syria had just announced a ceasefire and began deploying troops in Sweida to contain the violence.

Saudi Arabia strongly condemned the Israeli attacks, denouncing them as a violation of international law and the 1974 Syria-Israel Disengagement Agreement. The Kingdom also criticized Israel’s continued interference in Syria’s internal affairs, accusing it of contributing to the destabilization of the country’s fragile security situation.

“The Kingdom affirms its rejection of all forms of aggression against Syria and reiterates the need to respect its sovereignty and territorial integrity,” the statement read.

Riyadh further called on the international community to stand with Syria during this critical time and to take action against repeated Israeli violations that undermine regional peace and stability.

The developments mark a continued shift in Saudi Arabia’s regional diplomacy, as the Kingdom has in recent months sought to reengage with Damascus and support broader efforts toward reconciliation and reconstruction in Syria.
