PUTRAJAYA|| June 25: Following a bilateral meeting between Malaysia and Kyrgyzstan, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov paid a brief visit to a yurt—the traditional nomadic tent of the Kyrgyz people—now erected near the Putrajaya Corporation complex.
The yurt, a centuries-old symbol of Kyrgyz nomadic heritage, was a gift from the Kyrgyz government during Prime Minister Anwar’s official visit to the Central Asian nation last year. Known for its portability and unique design, the yurt has been used by generations of Kyrgyz herders as they journeyed across vast grasslands, valleys, and mountainous terrains.
“I was truly impressed by its distinctive design—lightweight, mobile, and easily reassembled. It reflects the resilience and flexibility of the Kyrgyz way of life, mirroring their enduring traditions and cultural strength,” said Anwar after the visit.
The Prime Minister emphasized that the yurt represents more than just a cultural artifact. “To me, this yurt is not merely a symbol of heritage but a token of sincerity from President Sadyr—a gesture aimed at deepening ties between our peoples, rooted not only in diplomacy and investment but also in genuine friendship and mutual trust,” he added.
The gesture highlights a growing bond between Malaysia and Kyrgyzstan, signaling both nations’ commitment to strengthening people-to-people connections alongside formal diplomatic and economic relations.
