MSMEs To Receive Greater Attention In Budget 2027, Says Amir Hamzah

KUALA LUMPUR: Micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) will continue to receive attention in the planning of Budget 2027, in line with their role as one of the main drivers of the country’s economic growth.

Second Finance Minister Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan said the government is committed to ensuring that the benefits of economic growth are felt more comprehensively by all levels of society, including MSME players.

“I think MSMEs are the backbone of the economy. In terms of government emphasis, we will give greater attention to MSMEs during Budget 2027.

“We see that the Malaysian economy continues to grow. What we want to ensure is that the benefits of that economic growth can be felt by the entire people and enjoyed by MSMEs in particular,” he said in a speech at the “Cerita Mereka, Jiwa Malaysia” event in conjunction with the BSN Mikro MADANI Carnival here on Friday.

According to him, the government is currently in the process of examining suitable initiatives to help further boost MSME businesses.

Various proposals have also been received from relevant agencies as well as through engagement sessions that have been held.

Amir Hamzah said every proposal will be evaluated based on the effectiveness of implementation, impact on the people and businesses, as well as its suitability with the country’s fiscal position.

Besides empowering MSMEs, Budget 2027 is also expected to focus on efforts to address the cost of living, create more quality jobs and strengthen the country’s economic growth.

Budget 2027 is scheduled to be tabled in Parliament on October 9.
