Kuala Lumpur—24 June 2025: Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has commended the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, for his instrumental role in brokering a ceasefire between Iran, Israel, and the United States, describing the move as a pivotal diplomatic success that prevented a broader conflict in the Middle East.
In a statement posted on his official Facebook page on Tuesday, Prime Minister Anwar revealed that he held a telephone conversation with the Qatari Emir earlier in the day, during which he expressed deep appreciation for Qatar’s efforts in promoting peace during a time of intense regional instability.
“This is an important step that successfully defused tensions and prevented a larger confrontation and conflict in the Middle East,” said Anwar.
According to Anwar, Sheikh Tamim shared that Qatar had been placed in a difficult and sensitive position, with the risk of being drawn into the regional conflict. Nevertheless, the Qatari leader chose to prioritize regional stability, focusing on long-term peace efforts.
“I appreciate his steadfastness and sincerity in supporting these peace efforts, including Qatar’s continuous role in ceasefire negotiations between Palestine and Israel,” Anwar added.
The Prime Minister also noted that Sheikh Tamim had personally spoken with US President Donald Trump as part of the mediation efforts. During the call, the Emir reportedly urged Washington to support a halt to the violence in Gaza and to commit to efforts toward a just and lasting peace for Palestinians.
Anwar reaffirmed Malaysia’s commitment to supporting all credible international efforts aimed at resolving conflict through justice, diplomacy, and respect for sovereignty.
“Honest negotiations that respect the rights of every nation are an absolute prerequisite for building lasting peace in the region and throughout the world,” he emphasized.
The ceasefire, brokered amid soaring tensions following Iran’s retaliatory missile strikes on US military assets in the Gulf and Israel’s ongoing campaign in Gaza, is seen by analysts as a major diplomatic achievement and a critical turning point in preventing the escalation of violence across the Middle East.
