On Saturday, March 22, two cars collided on Jalan Penghulu Jaabar in Bukit Katil, killing a two-year-old boy and injuring six others.

Around 4 p.m., Muhammad Alexander Zulkarnain Muhammad Nur Basir, a toddler, passed away at the Melaka Hospital from severe brain injuries while undergoing treatment.

Alexander was in a car driven by his mother, Nurul Nadiah Mustapha Kamal, 31, together with his seven-year-old sister and two older brothers, ages four and nine, when the accident occurred at approximately 2.40 pm on Saturday, according to Melaka Tengah police commander ACP Christopher Patit.

According to our preliminary inquiry, Nurul Nadiah, the female driver, fell into “microsleep” (sleeping for a little period of time) while operating the vehicle as it was traveling from Melaka town toward Tehel.

“As a result, the car veered into the opposite lane and hit an oncoming car,” he said in a statement released here on Saturday.

While her three other children had fractures and cuts to their faces and legs, he stated she shattered her right leg.

He said that his 45-year-old brother, the only passenger, and the 34-year-old driver of the other vehicle both suffered torso injuries.

According to Christopher, the situation is being looked into under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless driving, and all victims are receiving treatment at the Melaka Hospital. Bernama
