Five-Year-Old Girl Killed in Jalan Kuching Crash, Police Locate BYD Driver
KUALA LUMPUR: A five-year-old girl died after the car she was travelling in with her father was hit from behind in a six-vehicle accident along Jalan Kuching here last Saturday.
In the incident at about 3.44 pm, the victim, who was seated in the rear passenger seat of a Perodua Bezza, was pronounced dead while receiving treatment at Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL) after sustaining severe head injuries.
Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa said the accident involved five cars and a motorcycle travelling from the city centre towards Segambut.
He said preliminary investigations found that the Perodua Bezza, driven by a 30-year-old local man, was hit from behind by a BYD Seal while traffic was moving slowly.
“The collision also involved a motorcycle before the Perodua Bezza spun into the right lane and crashed into three other vehicles — a Nissan Almera, Toyota Alphard and Perodua Myvi.
“As a result of the accident, the Perodua Bezza driver sustained injuries to his right hand, while the 33-year-old rider of a Yamaha 135LC motorcycle suffered head injuries.
“Both received treatment at HKL,” he said in a statement today.
He said the 28-year-old Nissan Almera driver, 37-year-old Toyota Alphard driver and 30-year-old Perodua Myvi driver were reported to have escaped unhurt.
Elaborating, Mohd Zamzuri said police had located the 24-year-old driver of the BYD Seal, who left the scene following the accident.
“The man is currently receiving treatment at a private hospital in Damansara for a concussion and remains under the supervision of the investigating officer pending further investigations,” he said.
He said the case was being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.
Members of the public or witnesses with information about the incident are urged to assist investigations by contacting the Tun H.S. Lee Traffic Police Station at 03-2071 9999 or any nearby police station.
