KUALA TERENGGANU: A woman who struck four Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) students in Dungun last Wednesday (Oct 9), resulting in three fatalities, has been found to be without a valid driver’s license.

Terengganu police chief Datuk Mohd Khairi Khairudin stated that 11 individuals have been questioned to aid in the investigation. “The witnesses include those present at the scene as well as family members of the suspect,” he said during a press conference at the Terengganu police contingent headquarters.

Mohd Khairi announced that charges against the mother of three were filed under Section 302 and Section 307(1) of the Penal Code, following directions from the Attorney General’s Chamber.

“Typically, incidents like this would involve charges under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act (APJ) 1987, but this case is different. The Attorney General’s instructions indicate that the suspect should be charged under Section 302 due to the circumstances at the scene, including a potential collision where the suspect did not stop and dragged a victim for over 100 meters, indicating intent to kill,” he explained.

He also noted that while there were claims that the suspect had previously harassed students and residents around UiTM Dungun, the police had not received any formal complaints regarding such incidents.

Furthermore, Mohd Khairi urged the public and social media users to refrain from speculating or making negative remarks about the suspect, as she has now been charged and the matter is to be settled in court.

Earlier today, 49-year-old suspect Norizan Ismail was charged under Section 302 at the Dungun Magistrate’s Court and Section 307(1) at the Kuala Terengganu Sessions Court. No plea was recorded, and she was ordered to undergo a month-long mental evaluation at Permai Johor Bahru Hospital.

The tragic incident occurred at 7:35 PM last Wednesday on Jalan Pantai, where the housewife, driving an SUV, allegedly collided with two motorcycles carrying four students returning to campus. The deceased include two Bachelor of Accountancy students, 20-year-olds Ku Adib Aizad Ku Azmi and Khairil Anwar Jamaludin, along with 25-year-old Muhammad Akmal Md Tukirin, a Bachelor of Food Service Management student. Another victim, 20-year-old Muhammad Ammar Danish Mohd Ridhuan, also a Bachelor of Accountancy student, sustained injuries.
