NEW YORK: The FIFA World Cup 2026 winners will receive championship rings in addition to the traditional trophy and gold medals, reported Xinhua, citing a FIFA announcement on Thursday.
The rings will be presented to the champions after the World Cup final on Sunday at the New York New Jersey Stadium, where Spain and Argentina will battle for the title.
The championship ring is part of a limited edition collection of 2,026 individually numbered ring designs to commemorate the 2026 tournament.
Thirty rings will be given to members of the winning team. The remaining 1,996 will be released worldwide as officially licensed memorabilia.
Each ring features the FIFA World Cup trophy on one side, while the opposite side will be customised to reflect the identity of the tournament winners.
The introduction of the championship ring adds a North American element to FIFA’s awards presentation, reflecting a long-standing tradition in US professional sports where championship teams receive commemorative rings alongside their trophies.
